Support Sharing Introduction
This site should be live by September 1; subscriptions can be entered at that time. - Thank you!
This website was created out of a need by our family to care for a parent with dementia. As we spoke with family and with friends in similar situations, we discovered the need to have a private and secure site of our own, to be able to talk with each other and to store needed, and often private, information.
The care of an aging or ill loved one often begins with the simple scheduling and follow-up on routine tasks such as home maintenance, doctor appointments, car maintenance, renewal of insurance policies, paying monthly bills and the like. While these tasks seemed simple at first, we found that the duplication of information and numerous phone calls required in scheduling often made the simple much more complex.
Most families resort to email and
telephone tag to share information but sometimes not all information may reach everyone or may not get documented as not seeming that important at the time such as policy numbers or new health complaints. While there are
public social networking websites, we felt that personal information is best kept private. In an age when most of our health issues are automatically shared with our health care providers, we did not want to share personal and confidential information, or out personal thoughts, with anyone.
Our solution was SupportSharing.com which provides a private repository for information, notes on visits, schedules, medications and medical notes, and any other appropriate information. SupportSharing will allow you to quickly log in and record information knowing that it is available to all registrants of your
circle (or family group). This could be information as simple as the name, policy number and renewal date of the homeowners insurance you just acquired for your parent. Now the other caregivers within your circle can quickly access the information without having to call around or shuffle through papers to find the needed information should a need arise. Care has been given to ensure that access is limited to your circle and that only your circle members have access to that data.
Registered family members can access the site at their convenience and can be notified of any updates by email to alert them that new information has been posted.
